Cancer Foundation to launch PINKTOBER this week

The women’s cancer month, October, focuses on breast, cervical and mouth cancer awareness.

The annual PINKTOBER that is dedicated to promoting awareness on women’s cancer will be launched on Wednesday, September 28.

The Papua New Guinea Cancer Foundation will officially launch PINKTOBER and announce its activities during October to help raise funds for awareness on cancer affecting women.

PNGCF chief executive officer Dadi Toka Jnr always stresses that women’s cancer, cervical and breast, are rapidly increasing in PNG so we all must work together to prevent cancer.

Statistics show that two women die every day from cervical cancer.

Organised activities during October will help raise funds towards awareness about women’s cancer and provide education and support for women and families affected by it.

The funds will be used to also provide free cancer screening and workshops at locations around the country, and work with partner organisations to improve cancer control across the nation.

PNGCF marketing and fundraising manager Hayley Chown said they’re looking forward to the launch where a new sponsor will be announced.

Last year, the Cancer Foundation hosted the Pink Ribbon Brunch on 28 October that raised much needed funds for cancer awareness.

Business houses and individuals joined the foundation to raise funds by purchasing a table of 10 for K3500.
