Buka, Kokopo to revel with NRL in the Park

Digicel has entered the final week of the successful NRL in the Park community fun days.

Last Saturday, 20 February, Madang residents celebrated the upcoming NRL season with a successful community fun day at Laiwaden Oval, whilst Buka and Kokopo residents have their turn this Saturday, 27 February.

Hundreds of Madang residents enjoyed a special guest performance by music sensation Nathan Nakikus and participated in fun footy games, where some participants received great prizes.

Madang rugby league fans also enjoyed watching a series of NRL highlights from past seasons on Digicel big-screens showcasing memorable tries, the biggest tackles and major hit-ups.

This Saturday 27 February, Buka residents can join the NRL in the Park fun at Bel Isi Park and Kokopo residents at the Kokopo Primary School oval.

Both towns are set for a big day of entertainment with live band performances by local band Model Zero in Buka and entertainment in Kokopo by local group Mind Trip. Both events are lined up with heaps of entertainment for the community and great prizes on offer to be won.

CEO Digicel PNG, Maurice McCarthy, said the NRL in the Park community fun day program has been an enormous success with hundreds of residents throughout seven cities now primed and ready for the rugby league season.

“These events were about kicking off rugby league 2016 in a fun way that brought back memories, built excitement and engaged the communities.

“We are delighted that the communities embraced the events so well and look forward to bringing them all the exciting rugby league matches of 2016.”
