Bomana inmates end yearly sports competition

Inmates at the Bomana Correction Services yesterday (Friday Dec 11) ended their year-long sports competition with grand final matches at the main compound.

The competition is part of the prisoners rehabilitation program that covers areas like spiritual guidance, education, sports and recreational activities.

Commanding officer, Superintendent Haraha Keko said the competition programs aim to prepare the inmates for life after prison and enable them to fit back into the community and at the same time it helps keep their minds occupied.

The competition which runs every second Friday sees inmates take part in the sporting codes of soccer, volley ball and touch rugby.

Commander Keko said eight teams had been involved in the male inmates’ competition from each of the three sporting codes while the females had been having friendly matches with the female wardens.

He was also very thankful for the extended support through donations of jerseys that families of the inmates as well as business houses and sporting teams have donated to the inmates this year during the competition.
