Boino to compete in Texas Relays Meet

Papua New Guinea star hurdler Mowen Boino is set to compete at the Texas Relays Meet in Austin Texas on Friday April 1.

The three-time Olympian and four-time Pacific Games 400m hurdles champion, Boino has been accepted to run the invitation 400m hurdles at the prestigious event.

This will be a strong field and very good race for Boino and he is understood to be really looking forward to it.

Boino will compete against athletes from Jamaica, Puerto Rico and USA as he aims to qualify for the Rio Olympic Games.

Boino, Nelson Stone and Theo Piniau are currently in the race to secure the one place allocated to PNG under universality rules for a male athlete in track and field athletics at the Olympic Games.

Boino made a good start to his campaign with a solid 49.81 seconds for 400m at the world indoor championships in Portland Oregon on March 19.

Athletics PNG President Tony Green said this was a good time considering this was his first race and the 400m is not Mowen’s main event.
