Bernard Nepo is new acting Correctional Service Commissioner

Minister for Correctional Services (CS) Jim Simatab has officially announced and clarified the appointment of acting commissioner Bernard Nepo today.

Nepo will act on the position for three months starting today as appointed by the Ministerial Executives Appointment Committee and announcement by the Prime Minister last week.

Simatab clarified that the appointment was based on merit and asked all CS senior officers to work together with Nepo and support him for the next three months.

“I was not consulted by NEC about the decision nor did I make any recommendations as the appointment was done on merit.

“I have confidence in Nepo to deliver as he has served in the service for over 30 years and has great wealth and experience.

“With his experience, qualification and association with you, I am sure that you will be able to work together so give all your support,” Simatab told senior officers at a media conference today.

Nepo thanked NEC for having the trust in him and called on all senior officers to give all the support he needs to get the job done.

He admitted that leading the department is a challenge and he is more than willing to except it with open arms as he is well aware of the major issues affecting the organisation.

“I am confident and determine to perform to the expectations of the National Government and that of the stakeholders,” said Nepo.

Nepo joined the CS in 1985 and have worked through the rank and file to the level of Commissioned Officer, prior to being appointed as Acting Commissioner.

He has performed managerial roles in various capabilities, one being as the Commanding Officer at Mukurumanda Correctional Institution, had also performed in the CS Headquarters, and recently at the CS Staff Training College as the Commandant.
