Beon Jail running out of food rations

The Beon Jail in Madang is currently facing an acute food shortage for its inmates.

This was revealed by a senior Correctional Services officer from Beon Jail, who was supervising the stall set-up for this weekend‘s Madang Festival at Laiwaden oval。

The CS officer who requested anonymity, said the food ration to feed the inmates is running short and they are making a desperate appeal to business houses in Madang town and the provincial government for possible assistance。

He pointed out that the short fall in government funding is one of the major contributing factors that lead to food rations running out.

“We do not have money to buy food to feed our inmates, therefore, we are appealing to business houses and the Provincial Government to help,” he said.

The CS officer said so far only Sigma Construction has responded favorably with pledges to provide them bags of rice。

Sigma Construction Operations Manager,Walter Ragi confirmed they would support Beon Jail with food rations in due time to keep them going.

Ragi said they will do the officially presentation of the food rations to the Beon Prison after everything is finalized and done.

He assured Beon Jail inmates that they will still support them during such time of short fall in government funding to state agencies.
