Basamuk Refinery shuts down after death of Chinese worker

RAMU NiCo Project production has been temporarily shut down following an unfortunate incident at the Projects' Basamuk Refinery site yesterday (Tuesday, April 12, 2016) resulting in one fatality.

While official investigation on the cause of the incident is still pending, RamuNiCo management confirmed that an employee of Chinese origin died following an incident at the Refinery Processing plant while attending to his work.Two nationals sustained injury and are now recovering at Modilon General Hospital after being airlifted by helicopter.

"Our Emergency Response Team with medical officers tried to resuscitate the Chinese employee but he sadly passed away."

"The national employees are recovering and their situation is stable," the Company management said.

The incident occurred at around 7:50am this morning (Tuesday April 12) during the normal operation of the processing plant.

"We are so sad that we have lost one of our employees. We are in the process of informing his family members soon," the management said.

The incident has been reported to Mineral Resources Authority (MRA) and the incident scene has been barricaded for further investigation.

"We have secured the area and ensure no further injury to our employees. We also advise family members and relatives that all employees are all safe," RamuNiCo management said
