Baki assures return of normalcy

Police Commissioner Gari Baki has given his assurance that his men will work around restoring normalcy in the National Capital District following the student confrontation today.

Speaking in a media conference, Baki gave the assurance that police will be out in full force commencing tonight in a lead up to tomorrow, to ensure that public normalcy in the city comes back.

“This situation has affected our schools, I am now told that the high schools that were supposed to sit their exams today and tomorrow, I understand has been put off. All the schools have closed down.

“I am interest to see that public order and normalcy comes back.”

He said his men will be deployed out tonight and also to ensure that the soccer match tonight is not disrupted. “We are still deploying men out tonight so go and watch soccer.”

Today saw most shops around the city close early for safety reasons. Employees of both private sector as well as Public Servants were sent home early while school students were sent home at lunch time.

Meanwhile, Commissioner Baki denied a shootout at the Tokam Police barracks early today, saying members of the public have taken advantage of the situation and have been throwing stones into the police barracks, targeting police families there.

“I’ve given instructions to my men to make sure that the barracks down at Morata is protected at all cost.

“Our families in the barracks have been a subject of that nonsense as well,” Baki added.
