Australia’s Bishop launches Pacific Precinct program in POM

Australia’s Foreign Affairs Minister Julia Bishop today launched the Pacific leadership and Governance Precinct in Port Moresby.

This is a joint PNG-Australia government initiative to strengthen public and private sector leadership in PNG.

This partnership was signed in December 2014 through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOA).

The precinct aims to improve leadership at levels through education and training program. It will encourage collaboration and debate between the private and public sectors and the civil society.

Under this program the University of Papua New Guinea School of Business and Public Policy and the PNG Institute of Public Administration (PNGIPA) will receive significant development.

UPNG’s SBPP will be housed in an ICT ready building, containing a library, lecture theatres, tutorial rooms and common areas.

A main lecture theatre  will also be built under the 2013 Joint Understanding between Australia and PNG.

The PNG IPA is being transformed into a National School of Government. It will receive a new teaching and administration wing and a modern learning resource centre.

The precinct is offering executive leadership training to realize its vision of building the next generation of high performing leaders in PNG.

More than 300 participants attended short courses this year.
