Around 200 Ox & Palm workers on strike

Factory workers at Hugo Canning Company, the maker of Ox & Palm corned beef, are on strike after a disagreement with the company management.

Loop PNG visited the company premises at 17-Mile outside Port Moresby at lunch time today.

On arrival, the staff were in discussion with the company top management outside of the office.

Loop PNG was not allowed to listen to the discussion and also, company general manager Greg Steven declined to comment when questioned.

"No comment, we are under negotiation."

An employee, who did not want to be named, said around 200 workers have stopped work since yesterday and will continue till the management responds positively to their terms.

"The management has stopped all other allowances and this will affect our salary because we are paid only K3.38 per hour," the worker said.

The meal and overtime allowance cuts will affect their take home pay, the staff told Loop PNG.
