ARoB schools need discipline

STRICT disciplinary measures are needed in most primary and secondary schools in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville.

According to an independent survey, a good number of students are into alcohol, drugs and sex abuse, while some are members of internet groups that supply pornographic materials.

Loop PNG was recently approached by a special investigation taskforce (independent group) leader who wishes to remain anonymous.

“The disease in PNG schools we do not want it in here and we are going to stop it once we find out the culprits who are selling drugs and porn to our school children,” he said.

“We are heading for referendum and we want bright children to run our government in future. We don’t need criminals to run down this place.”

Marijuana is now being consumed by students and is a real threat to their education.

They somehow have access to weapons where they have no qualms about posting their gun-toting pictures on social media, which has now grabbed the attention of concerned parents, said the taskforce leader.

Technology has played a major part, especially with mobile phones where internet access is at your fingertips.

Whatsapp groups have been formed and students have access to explicit materials like pornography.

The task force leader said there has to be a policy in place in schools where any student caught must be expelled on the spot.

“We need to dwarf this trend before it gets worse and out of hand,” he said.

“We have students at early grades swearing like adults. It’s because they are already exposed to an explicit environment where they can access things without consent.

“Generally our schools are highly disciplined but it is just one or two students that are being influenced that gives a bad reputation to our schools and we will stop it.”
