Arawa joins in Biggest Morning Tea cancer awareness

Women and girls at Arawa in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville had the opportunity to learn more about breast and cervical cancer.

The awareness was in support of the PNG Cancer Foundation’s Biggest Morning Tea (BMT) campaign but was rolled out as an open public awareness at Arawa on Friday, May 13.

BMT campaign is a fun and easy way for communities, business houses, friends and family to come together over a cup of tea and start the conversation about cancer.

The campaign gives the people of PNG access to education and information on cancer awareness and prevention during the month of May.

The awareness team comprised of four female health specialists, one female social worker and a male medical doctor.

They conducted education and awareness on the different types of cancers including breast, cervical and mouth cancer and their causes and preventive measures.

Host Eleanor Maineke thanked PNGCF for providing the BMT starter pack which helped the team in Arawa, Central Bougainville.

She said the presenters gave their time on a voluntary basis, which showed their concern and support for others’ health.

“All the pamphlets were distributed within the two hours of awareness and a call from rural areas was made for such awareness to reach them,” Maineke said.

PNGCF marketing & fundraising manager, Hayley Chown also thanked Eleanor and everyone who supported the campaign so far.

Chown said Eleanor's support really encompasses what the BMT campaign is about, which is providing cancer awareness and education across the country to those that may not have access to this information.

PNGCF has registered 57 BMTs and 37 of those are being hosted outside of Port Moresby.

PNGCF thanked DHL, Lipton and Moore Printing for the support in sending starter packs to Lae, Mt Hagen, Madang and Aitape.

There is still time to register for the BMT campaign, email: events@cancerfoundation.org.pg
