American Samoa takes gold in women’s volleyball

American Samoa has snatched the gold medal from Tahiti in women’s volleyball.

The teams played a tough match completing all five sets with American Samoa winning 3-2 before a sell-out crowd at BSP Arena.

It was a close encounter throughout the match as both teams.

American Samoa kicked off the match with impressive defence and managed to keep Tahiti from at bay to win the first set 25-23.

Tahiti fought back in the second set to win 25-23.

The third set was intense but American Samoa bounced back in the lead to win 25-19 forcing the game into the fourth set.

Tahiti managed to win the fourth set 25-19 allowing the match to go into a fifth set.

The crowd continued to cheer both teams on as American Samoa maintained a strong defence to win by 2 points, 17-15.

Tahiti takes silver, New Caledonia bronze, PNG fourth, Fiji in fifth place followed by Solomon Islands, Wallis and Futuna and Guam.
