Air Niugini to increase flights on overseas routes

Air Niugini will increase its flights on selected international routes in the festive season.

The airline company stated that flights from Port Moresby to Manila in the Philippines, and Sydney and Cairns in Australia will be increased.

From November 1, direct flights to Sydney will increase from two to three in a week and Manilla will see five flights compared to four currently starting on December 3.

Air Niugini chief executive officer Simon Foo said the flight increased is because of demand on these routes.

Air Niugini’s direct flights to Sydney take just under four hours and have proved popular with both business and leisure travellers, saving over three hours travelling time compared to making a connection in Brisbane or Cairns.

“We are increasing frequency to provide our business and leisure customers with more flexibility and choice, while at the same time ensuring economic benefits flow to the wider community including the airport service providers, tourism and hospitality sectors,” Foo said.

Manila and Sydney routes are operated by Air Niugini’s Boeing 737 aircraft.

Foo added  that at the the end of this month, Air Niugini will also increase its flights to Cairns in North Queensland to 15 times in a week to meet market demand and seat capacity.
