Accounting students top CPA PNG exam participation

A record 70 accounting students from Divine Word University (DWU) sat for the annual Certified Practicing Accountants Papua New Guinea (CPA PNG) foundation exam recently.

CPA PNG executive Nicholas Koimo said this is the second consecutive year DWU topped the list of accounting students registering and taking the Foundation of Accounting exam compared to other institutions in PNG.

Koimo said the 70 students paid K275 each to sit for which was held in the Sana Room of Madang Resort Hotel on 26th October, 2015.

He was at the Madang campus two weeks prior to the exams and met with the accounting students who are members of the DWU Junior Society of Accountants (DWU JSA) where he presented K3000 from CPA PNG to the society.

He said CPA PNG was pleased with the efforts of accounting students in DWU in taking the CPA PNG exams seriously.

The bronze medal-winning Bachelor of Business (Accounting) graduate of DWU in 2001 who was in his alma mater told the students that CPA PNG recognises their effort.

He urged them to remain focused to complete all the 10 unit exams when they graduate and work to qualify as CPAs, the benchmark achievement in the profession.

Koimo said once an accountant successfully completes all the CPA exams then she or he would have met the benchmark as a qualified accountant and this was important for one’s career prospects.

The ceremony was witnessed by DWU Vice President (Student Affairs) Ted Alau who commended the CPA PNG and the accounting students for maintaining the partnership.

Alau praised the 70 students for registering to sit for the CPA PNG exam as it was important for their future.
