2016 Budget set for November 03

The country’s National Budget for 2016 will be handed down in parliament on November 3, 2015.

Finance Minister James Marape could not reveal the government projection for next year however, he says preparations are on foot.

He says the 2015 supplementary budget will also be passed along with the main budget.

Meantime the Department of Treasury says the 2016 Budget will maintain the Government’s key priority expenditures such as Tuition Fee Free Education; Free Primary Health Care and subsidized specialized Healthcare.

Other priority areas are maintenance of existing road infrastructure and funding to support operations for lead up work to APEC 2018, the National Elections in 2017, and the African, Caribbean and Pacific States meeting in 2016.

Funding will also be appropriated for drought currently experienced throughout the country.

The Government will also address the overruns in personal emoluments by ensuring that all departments reconcile their payroll and staffing structure with the Department of Finance.

All departments are to resolve matters relating to unattached officers within their agencies and must ensure devolution of powers relating to the hiring and dismissals of staff are done in consultation with the Department of Personnel Management.
