A 12-year-old cancer patient is granted his wish to 'blow stuff up'

Australia's Make A Wish foundation have granted a 12-year-old's greatest desire to "blow stuff up".

Declan is in remission from leukaemia and recently spent the day with Australia's Federal Police.

He was collected from home in a motorcade, taken to the specialist response group headquarters where he took part in a hostage scenario.

Declan's parents say the experience gave the family something other than his treatment to focus on.

"He has been telling all our friends and family that he is going to blow stuff up and I think they've been really jealous of that," says his mum Belinda.

"He wanted to just blow something up and he did that, which was awesome."

During his special day, Declan set off a number of charges and exploded the doors off buildings.

Officers said it was a "special opportunity" to share their training with him.

Declan also had the chance to meet the Australian prime minister, which his mum said left him "speechless".

"This experience will affect Declan in a really positive way," she says.

"He's going to have some really positive memories. It won't be just about his illness.

"He can look back on this, think about the good time he had and always have some amazing memories."
