09ERS fight back to beat Bears

09ERS came back from trailing by 10 points to shock Bears with a 12-10 win on day two of the PNG Power National Softball Club Fast Pitch tournament.

The Bears batted first and got off to a strong start with a 3-0 lead after Consie Bais hit a homer to bring home two runners plus himself.

The 09ERS pitcher and catcher combination of Desmond Torot and Chris Karl was no match for the Bears batters who continued to pile on the runs with ease. Mark Simon placed a safe hit that brought Darius Kero running home to take a 10-0 lead. After failing to score any runs at their turn of bat, the 09ERS made a change in the pitching department at the top of the second inning bringing on Elizah Turik to replace Torot.

Turik brought the Bears onslaught to a complete stop with no runs scored. This turned the game right around as the 09ERS staged their comeback running in 8 runs at their second turn of bat. With 09ERS still batting, the game was suspended for the official opening ceremony to take place.

After the ceremony, the boys from Madang got back to business scoring 4 more runs to take a 12-10 lead and win the match. The game was called off at the bottom of the second inning by umpire Moses Tolingling due to time factor. Influential in the win for 09ERS was Trevor Boumai and Israel Kakat who brought home two runners each.

In the other men's results, Mantas Def. Pirates 7-5, Drongos Def. Overheads 10-0 and Yokomo Def. Defence 10-3.
