Village association aims to build rural library

The new Gasagasa Development Association (GDA) launched this week at Notofana Village in rural Goroka LLG, Eastern Highlands Province aims to build a rural public library.

The library will serve about 500 people that live in the area and nearby villages including Kofica, Kabiufa, Gamuga and Makiroka.

The library project will include a learning centre for women and girls.

The library and learning centre will consist of books, internet access, sewing machine, oven and conference room for girls and women to learn basic life skills.

This will help improve literacy level in the community and empower women or girls in the Notofana area.

The building will be powered by 5 X 250 w solar panels.

GDA representative, villager Josupo Hollowe said they aim to seek funding from the Steamships Community Grant Program for the project.

A fundraising dinner to raise funds for the project will be held at Stake House in Goroka this month.

GDA is calling on interested business houses and individuals to assist with financial support to help change the lives of the rural people.
