Uncle Tony highlights work of Life Care PNG

For ordinary children, visiting a live set, even for a cook show, is the highlight of their childhood.

On Thursday, 10 children from Life Care PNG witnessed the recording of Haus Cook, a cook show on local television station, TV Wan.

Life Care PNG is a local charity that houses unfortunate and under privilege children in Port Moresby.

It is the initiative of Colin Pake and wife, who opened their home to children in this situation, at least 10 years ago.

The number has grown to over thirty over the years.

The ten were invited by Anthony Wesley Evennet, popularly known as “Uncle Tony”, who cooks on the show.

Tony has been involved with the charity organisation since last year, especially in their fundraising drive.

His reason for bringing them onto set was to introduce them to PNG.

“Everybody have probably come across those Life Care PNG donation boxes on store counters… and many may have ignore them.

“I want to use this opportunity to show PNG what this boxes are for. At least give PNG a visual so they know that this is a local organisation helping our local children.

“It’s sad when PNG doesn’t know what Life care PNG is,” he said.

The children also had a tour of Uncle Tony’s art studio.

Tony, who is also an artist, hopes to offer free art and cooking lessons to these children. But only once they are settled and the timing and space is suitable, he says.

At this time, Life care PNG has issues with rental and are in need of a permanent place of their own, preferably a piece of land.

“If only the government could offer a piece of land to initiatives like this. The organisation has been given containers of flat pack furniture and equipment, but they just need a place to set up,” said Tony.

Meantime, Tony has also offered a painting to the organisation to auction at its upcoming fundraising in October 6, 2017.
