TFF DEIC launched in EHP

Managing the annual funding of K602 million Tuition Fee Free policy is a mammoth task for the Education Department.

Monitoring, Acquittal and reporting of funds usage is a challenge in the rural areas for the department in ensuring the funds are not mismanaged.

Three districts in th Eastern Highlands province are the first in the country to establish a District Education Implementation Committee.

The committee is made up of members from the District Education levels from the Obura-Wonenara, Okapa and Lufa districts.

They will manage the government's Tuition Fee Free policy at the district levels.

DEIC is an NEC directive of 2016 that is now being implemented in the three districts.

Eastern Highlands Tuition Fee Free Coordinator said the challenge with DEIC is that it's too centralized at the Provincial Headquarters and with a launching of the partnership between the three districts, funds will be managed at the district level.

Supported by Care International and the Education Department, the program will be replicated in others districts in the country.

Care International Better Governance for Education Project Manager Priscilla Pius said the program starter off at strengthening governance support education programs in the Obura-Wonenara district.

Education Department's First Assistant Secretary Camilus Kanau said with the launch, they hope to go back and strengthen systems to drive quality education for the 2.2 million children around the country.
