Public servants commend miner for renovations

A long serving public servant in Porgera, Enga Province, has commended the Porgera Joint Venture (PJV) for the renovation of public servants homes in the District.

Ruben Tongole, the community development officer with the Porgera District Administration said this following the completion of renovation works on his home last month by PJV.

A 20 year career public servant, Ruben received keys to his ‘new look’ home on February 16 at Paiam in the presence of Deputy District Administrator, Epenes Nakipane, and local contractor representatives.

“The house was not in a good condition; water was leaking from the roof, floor tiles were worn-out, the timbers of the step-ladders were wrecked. The house is where a man’s life is and I am more than happy for the work PJV has done,” an elated Ruben expressed.

DDA Nakipane thanked PJV on behalf of the Porgera District Administration for continuing to provide support in various areas of development within the district.

“Such services that we receive from the company are a bonus. This is not the first house but there are other houses that have been renovated. PJV has also assisted in community development and sport and the district administration is very appreciative of this”, Nakipane said.

PJV undertook maintenance work on Rubens home, under Stage 2 of the Public Service Housing Maintenance Program, funded through the Tax Credit Scheme.

Rueben is the sixth person to benefit under the Stage 2 maintenance program, with renovations on his home taking less than three months to complete.

PJV’s Economics Program Superintendent with Community Development, Daniel Sosi, said shelter is an essential part of human life and housing conditions impact on people’s lives as well.

“Housing as we all know is an important element in our lives. And I can see the emotion in this gentleman and know this change has now impacted his life. It goes to show that housing, clothing, food, these are key elements of every human beings survival on earth”, Sosi expressed.

Local contractor Mamak Co. Limited was engaged to do the maintenance work on the H40 house.

The contractor provided the labour while PJV provided the building materials.

PJV Tax Credit Scheme Superintendent, Derick Kundi thanked the local contractor for executing the work in a professional manner.
