Porgera police get new uniforms

Community-based organisation, Restoring Justice Initiative Association (RJIA), has donated police uniforms to Porgera police.

Valued at K16,368, RJIA also donated basic stationery and office furniture valued at K700.

RJIA manager, Pat Niuni, said the donation of uniforms was a result of a request from Porgera police, when there were concerns on the deteriorating state of the uniforms for the serving police men and women.

Niuni also said the donation was to ensure there was uniformity in dressing by the 45 members of Porgera police while on duty as members of the Royal PNG Constabulary (RPNGC).

Apart from the new recruits, it was after 12 years that the long serving members had received any new issue of the police uniform.

The set of uniforms included the official shirts with epaulettes and RPNGC logos, trousers, belts, and berets with the RPNGC metal badge.

The clothing was from a RPNGC-recommended Port Moresby supplier.

Paiam Police Station Commander (PSC) Senior Sergeant Jack Kimala thanked RJIA for recognising the efforts of the local police and providing assistance in many areas of policing.

“We have been struggling through…nobody has recognised our efforts but at least there is a partner who is concerned…who wants to work with us.

“On behalf of the regular force here and the PPC (Provincial Police Commander), I take this opportunity to thank RJIA for partnering with us,” Kimala said.

Police officers who were at the parade of 4 June took delivery of the donations.

The RJIA Inc. was established in 2014 to strategically focus on facilitating support to the Porgera police leadership, improving operational standards, to promote community policing partnership approach and working in partnership with key stakeholders within Porgera Valley on law and order programs and initiatives.
