PNG’s rep for Commonwealth Youth Forum

The US Embassy has announced that Cultural Assistant Lazarus Towa will attend the 2018 Commonwealth Youth Forum in London, England, as Papua New Guinea’s representative. The event runs from April 16-18, 2018.

Towa is being recognised for his volunteer work through his Facebook page called “Current Job Vacancies Repost With LT”, which has up to sixty eight thousand followers and has helped at least 200 people find employment throughout Papua New Guinea.

His efforts helping thousands of Papua New Guineans seeking employment has earned him recognition by the United Nations and now the Commonwealth Youth Forum to be held at the QEII Conference Centre, Westminster, London, with the theme for the 2018 Commonwealth Youth Forum being “Powering our Common Future”.

Towa says he started his efforts after completing university when he noticed that many of his colleagues were trying to find suitable employment. To help them, he provides job seekers with tips on how to write a curriculum vitae and in many instances, offering photocopying and printing services as well.

“Reaching the unreached and touching the untouched is what I aim for,” he said. His motivation comes from the hundreds of people who have contacted him directly and indirectly to confirm they’ve found employment with his assistance.

These efforts made off in a more personal manner when he reached out for help to finance his trip to London to participate in the Commonwealth Youth Forum, relying on donations from friends and contacts to pay for all of his expenses.

This ambitious young man from Kerowagi in the Chimbu Province has come a long way since completing a Bachelor of Arts in Information and Communication at the University of Papua New Guinea in 2015. He has been employed at the U.S. Embassy in Port Moresby since May 2017.
