Passam road situation returns to normal

Situation at the Passam road has returned to normal following the uproar by villagers last week, blocking roads and stopping access for travelers on the Sepik Highway.

The situation followed an attempted holdup of a route 3-10 PMV bus belonging to a man from Kubalea in the Yangoru-Saussia district, who resides at Yawasoro in Wewak.

The owner and relatives retaliated, attacking the nearby Passam villagers.

Nevertheless, PPC East Sepik, Robert Gesa, gave the assurance that the situation was under control.

Media personnel en route to Maprik also witnessed that the roads were cleared out and normalcy had returned.

However, locals in Maprik say the highway is a risky route to take and with these constant fights and roadblocks, it is sometimes difficult to travel the highway.

They are also calling on the PPC to ensure the safety of travelers, especially during the early hours of the morning.

Locals resort to traveling at the break of dawn due to the distance; it takes about three to four hours to reach Wewak from Maprik.
