Online Application System set for August

The Ministry for Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology is ready to roll out the National Online Application System for Grade 12 School Leavers for 2018.

The National Online Application System will be made available on August 15 2018 for Grade 12 Students to apply for further studies at any registered higher education institution for the 2019 academic year.

In a statement released online, Minister for Higher Education, Science, Research and Technology, Pila Niningi, said the Online Application System is a great achievement for PNG as it phases out the manual paper-based selection process; which over the years has had many loopholes resulting in eligible students even with GPA’s of 4 miss out on the selections.

The Online Application System promotes transparency and accountability but most importantly, it allows an increase of capable and eligible school leavers being admitted to higher education institutions.

Secretary of Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology Fr Jan Czuba said the Online System also allows students to have access to broad information of higher tertiary institutions, the degree and diploma programs they offer and the type of subjects and grades required for each course.

The online application provides the following benefits;

•             More choices- Choose up to five preferred programs.

•             More Information- Each program now has clear and distinct requirements, preferences and residential options.

•             More time for decision making- The online application gives students, parents and schools more time to choose the right program and institution.

•             Programs and Exam Match-Application will be matched to chosen program’s examination combinations.

•             Increased Admission- more admission chances through subject combination matching

Meanwhile there are also plans in the pipeline to integrate technology into the curriculum across all higher education institutions.
