New Maternity Ward for Kavieng Ward

The refurbished Maternity Ward facilities at the Kavieng General Hospital will now allow thousands of mothers and their new-borns access to quality healthcare and assist in reducing mortality rates.

This sentiment was shared during the handover of the K25, 000 refurbished facility to the Hospital by BSP Kavieng.

The Maternity Ward received new fly-wires, window strips, frames, walls and installation of lights and new toilet facilities.

The extended wing of the ward was also given a healthy and fresh look for mothers to visit for deliveries with all the inner aspect of the block completely transformed.

BSP Kavieng Deputy Branch Manager, David Pilai, said the bank immensely believes in contributing positively to the development of society.

 “We hope that the renovation of the ward will help the province and country to achieve the Health Development Goal on maternal mortality.”

“We are convinced that thousands of mothers that pass through this ward will receive quality healthcare service henceforth which will save many lives,” Pilai said.

Kavieng General Hospital CEO, Dr Alex Wangnapi, said, the intervention of the bank was of great prominence.

He said the incorporation of bank and the community will very much support challenges with maternal mortality.

“Now the ward has been elevated to the standard, to us it is the best in the province compared to other private and public hospitals.”

“It compares favourably with other hospitals that I have worked in around PNG and we are very grateful for that,” Wangnapi said.

The refurbishment is part of the Banks community project initiative for 2017 that is spearheaded by each BSP Branches around the country.
