First Secretary of the Japanese Embassy, Mitsigu Yachidate, made this statement during the opening of a new 3x1 classroom for St. Peter Chanel Primary School in the nation’s capital on Friday.
“I believe that education is not only a tool to acquire knowledge and skills but it is also an investment for the future development through those children,” he stated.
“The Government of Japan is pleased to have an opportunity to support the PNG Government’s efforts to improve the education sector through this project.
“These classrooms are gifts from the government and people of Japan. Please look after these classrooms properly, so that they can benefit not only current students but also many more students in the future.
“Finally, I sincerely hope that this project will contribute towards strengthening the friendship between the people of Japan and PNG and will also contribute towards fostering a strategic partnership between the two countries.”
The classrooms were funded through Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme.
