Major plans for Kuriva picnic area

Meeting customers’ needs is important.

This was the driving force behind the PNG Forest Authority’s recently-built canteen at its Kuriva Forestry Picnic Area.

Kuriva Forestry Picnic Area is an hour’s drive out of Port Moresby city along the Hiritano Highway.

The picnic site is part of the PNG Forest Authority’s forestry plantation and has big huts with a seating capacity of up to 30 people, barbecue plates and well-kept lawns.

The canteen was built in response to customers’ requests.

The canteen will sell party ice, sausages and meat, soft drinks as well as other household items needed for BBQs and parties.

Acting director of PNG Forest Authority, Francis Vilamur, said plans are underway to build bungalows for those wishing to stay the night.

Abel Thomas, a casual staff at Kuriva forestry station, said the canteen and other developments will mean they will not have to frequent Port Moresby for their supplies.

The canteen will not only serve the picnic goers but the surrounding Kuriva community as well.
