Lae Spelling Bee competition on again

The first annual Lae Spelling Bee & Debates Competition presented by Barata Streetstuf is set for Monday May 22.

“Being a youth-driven and focused small business, we want to give back to the community of Lae, the City where Barata Streetstuf is headed.”

This is also part of their Social Responsibilities Plan, to share their platform with other young people to have their voices heard.

The event aims to cover three main topics of interest: climate change, social issues and gender equality, through its vocabulary and debate topics.

Schools participating for Upper Primary Schools (Spelling Bee):

Lae Christian Academy, Milfordhaven Primary School, Salvation Army Primary School, Huonville Primary School, AOG Christian Academy, Markham Rd. Primary School, St. Martins Primary School and St. Pauls Primary School.

For Secondary Schools (Debates):

Lae Secondary School, Busu Secondary School, Coronation College and Bumayong Lutheran Secondary School will be involved.

Finals Day will feature special youth-point-of-view talks with Raylance Mesa - Youth Leader, Climate Change Activist and Commonwealth Youth Award 2017 Nominee, Christopher Lam - Youth Leader, Social Entrepreneur & Founder of Barata Streetstuf, Dagia Ma'i - Youth Leader, PNG Youth Lasalian Minister & Digicel Men of Honour Young Person of the Year 2017 Nominee.

The finals will be held at the Sir Ignatius Kilage Indoor Stadium and general communities of Lae are all invited to come hear what the young people of Lae have to say.
