Keeping children in the ward entertained

The festive season is here and for many, it is a time for enjoyment and fun at home or out and about.

Unfortunately, it can be a disheartening experience for those children suffering from illnesses, who have to stay indoors, especially in a hospital.

For children at the Angau Memorial Hospital Children’s Ward, the donation of a TV set and a range of channels to view from will try to bring some comfort to them whilst they undergo treatment.

Over the weekend, the Digicel Lae office donated a 40-inch flat screen TV and a Playbox and antenna. The gift comes with a lifetime free to view subscription to the children’s ward at the hospital.

Retail manager for Lae, Jennifer Imatana, says the donation is the first from Digicel Lae to the hospital, and will provide entertainment, distraction and comfort to patients and families throughout their stay at the paediatric ward.

Paediatric nurse Sister Mali Wee received the items with gratitude, saying they are thankful for the donation as the ward currently doesn’t have a TV.

Iron Ate, who is taking care of his 4-year-old daughter at the hospital, says he is happy about the donation as his daughter will now be able to keep busy watching TV and forget about the pain she is going through.

He said there is nothing much to do at the hospital especially for sick children and this donation has been given at the right time to cheer up the kids.

The children will now be able to watch programs on TVWan, which will bring them much comfort, especially during the festive season.

The Digicel Foundation has been assisting schools, hospitals and communities around the country for a number of years.
