K5m for Imbonggu hospital

Construction of the Imbonggu District Hospital in Pokurapul is set to commence.

Minister for Health and HIV/AIDS, Sir Puka Temu, was in the District recently to present a K5 million cheque to local MP and Minister for Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology, Pila Niningi.

The National Government’s program for establishing hospitals in the 89 districts of PNG is incorporated into the National Health Plan 2011 – 2020 and Health Medium Term Development Plan priorities for implementation.

The objective of the District Hospital Development Program is to rehabilitate and upgrade the existing strategic health centres into district hospital or build new district hospitals in accordance with the requirements of the National Health Services Standards of National Department of Health. This is to improve access and quality of health services to the rural and urban areas.

The District Hospital is delineated to deliver clinical and support services of medical, surgery, maternity, child services, anesthesia, radiology, pathology, dental, outpatient, general emergency, public health, CSSD, inpatient, kitchen, laundry, mortuary, medical waste treatment, TB, Family Support Centre, Rehabilitation, Biomedical, Facilities Management, administration and transportation.

In the 2018 budget, the National Government has appropriated K50 million for a total of 22 district hospital projects and this comprises of ongoing and new projects.
