Joint effort to locate missing Americans

The United States Embassy in Port Moresby announced a joint USA-PNG effort to search for and locate missing Americans who died defending the people of Papua New Guinea during the Second World War.

This effort will be undertaken by the Modern History Branch of the Papua New Guinea National Museum and Art Gallery.

This field operation will focus on searching for missing Americans in Northern Province, and occur in stages over the next few months.

Information of possible American grave sites, plane crashes or battlefield areas is particularly helpful and the United States Embassy encourages anyone who knows of possible missing Americans to contact the Modern History Branch at NMAG.

Working together with the people of Papua New Guinea, many missing Americans have been found over the last 20 years, but many more still remain to be found.
