Getting a high school after 43 years

After 43 years, the people of Numbo LLG, in Yangoru-Saussia District of East Sepik Province, will have their own high school.

This follows the groundbreaking ceremony last week at Handra by Minister for National Planning and Monitoring and local MP, Richard Maru.

Numbo locals gathered at Handra to welcome the Minister and his delegation.

“Mi hamamas Minista, lo wanem yu luksave lo krai blo pipol blo mipla. Tenk yu true em dei blo mipla,” said Michael Kombo, Numbo LLG President.

Handra Junior High will be the sixth high school in Yangoru-Saussia, the biggest number in East Sepik.

A seventh will also be launched at Winge, bringing the total number to seven.

Minister Maru said it is his wish to see all children in his electorate to be educated.

“It’s important that one district in East Sepik must set the pace, and the benchmark foe every other district. And in education, Yangoru-Saussia is very happy to set the pace,” said Maru.

The project is estimated to cost over K1 million and will see the construction of a 4-in-1 classroom and four teachers’ houses.

“Under this project we will employ 41 of the best carpenters in Numbo. And in the next four months they must sleep and wake up here to make sure the classroom is built on time and we can start our academic year,” said Maru.
