Digicel PNG Foundation has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with 4L Training & Consultants (4LTC) for the 2017/18 Community Learning Centre TISA (CLC TISA) Program.
The MOA signing confirms DPNGF’s annual funding of K95,000 to 4LTC to facilitate the program in NCD, Central & Gulf provinces. This is to support CLCs in PNG’s rural and socially marginalised communities to provide early education services for children.
Director of 4LTC, Mara Wape, said: “We’re proud to partner with the Foundation for the delivery of the CLC TISA Program.
“Our aim is to provide our teachers and boards with the necessary skills required to ensure that through their teaching and governance, we are producing numerate and literate children who will become useful citizens of Papua New Guinea.
“That is our ultimate goal and through this program, we encourage teaching that puts the needs of the child first and foremost.”
The CLC TISA Program takes a two-pronged approach at supporting CLCs.
The teacher training program is a capacity building program linking the passion of community-based volunteer teachers with a sound knowledgeable base to effectively deliver their early childhood learning & development programs in CLCs.
The institutional strengthening program is also a capacity building program, training the board members of CLCs to understand their roles and responsibilities and exercise good governance of CLCs to ensure they become sustainable entities.
There are currently 63 community-based teachers who have received the 6-week training and are undergoing practical assessments for graduation in October 2017. There are also 17 CLC Boards who are undergoing the institutional strengthening program with the aim of registering their CLCs as either formal elementary schools with the Department of Education or income generating activities with the Investment Promotion Authority by December 2018.
The CLC TISA Program is part of DPNGF’s efforts to achieve The UN’s Global Goals for Sustainable Development: SDG 4 – Quality Education.
Established in October 2008, Digicel PNG Foundation has directly invested K77 million in PNG’s rural, remote and socially marginalized communities across all 22 provinces directly impacting over 700,000 people.
