First permanent classroom after 28 years

Saingi Community School in Bima Village opened its first permanent classroom since its establishment 28 years ago.

The school established in 1989, is situated among the vast grassland of Yangoru – Saussia District of East Sepik Province.

It is level 4 school, with five teachers and 99 students.

Headmaster John Boyek said, the double classroom with 60 desks and chairs will definitely give a moral boast to the students.

The Yangoru Saussia District Development Authority funded the construction of the classroom and purchase desks and chairs totalling K100, 000.

Minister for Trade, Commerce and Industry and Member for Yangoru Saussia, Richard Maru cut the ribbon on Thursday to open the newly built classroom and committed another K100, 000 to complete the building of two teachers’ houses.

Maru said, because of the location of the school, there must be good houses for teachers to retain them.

He added that since taking office, under his chairmanship, Yangoru Saussia DDA has prioritised education with a K3 million allocation annually.

Maru also urged parents to continue to support the school with its activities.
