Digicel Foundation opens classroom in Seme- Dagoda

An elementary school in the Kairuku- Hiri District in Central Province was the proud recipient of a classroom funded and built by the PNG Digicel Foundation.

The opening and launching of the duplex classroom and two ablutions buildings will house the 67 students from prep to grade 2.

Established by the European Union, Seme- Dagoda elementary school was built and took in its first lot of students in 1988. Since then it has not seen any form of infrastructure or development within the elementary school.

In a small milestone gathering on Thursday, the schools board chairman, Taha Maiva said the assistance by Digicel Foundation is a relief to their struggles of infrastructures for the elementary school students.

“It has been a long time coming and a dream come true most especially for the elementary students of Seme-Dagoda including the parents,” Mr Maiva said.

Representing the PNG Digicel Foundation was board member, Naus Kamal who said the foundation was delighted and happy to commemorate the opening of the duplex classroom event on Seme- Dgaoda elementary school.

Kamal commended the support efforts of the small community with the foundation since the inception of the classroom and ablution project adding that it was a sign of partnership that the foundation fosters in the communities that they visit nationwide.

“Students are the focal points of innovative initiatives like especially when funding is a big challenge,” he adds.

Digicel PNG Foundation has invested K2.691 million back into Kairuku District for the construction of 4 primary school double-classrooms, 6 elementary school double-classrooms, 1 rural health aid post at Laloki, a mobile health service for Veifa’a and surrounding areas, 4 libraries and a community learning centre open-air kapa structure.

Central Province as a whole has received K6.331million worth of community development projects from Digicel PNG Foundation.

Established in October 2008, Digicel PNG Foundation has directly invested K77 million in PNG’s rural, remote and socially marginalised communities across all 22 provinces directly impacting over 700,000 people.
