Career expo for senior UPNG students

The University of Papua New Guinea students participated yesterday in a one-day career expo at the UPNG Campus in Port Moresby.

The theme of the expo, “Embracing one’s career path” is targeted at the third and final year students.

Career coordinator, Dika Iru, told Loop PNG that the university is still in its 2016 academic year and will end in two weeks’ time when the final years graduate.

“Following that the third years will move into their final year in April as well as the new intakes for the 2017 academic year.”

Iru says the expo is basically marketing students out to companies therefore organisations like Oil Search, National Development Bank, Bank South Pacific and PNG Ports had a set up on campus for students to explore their options.

She added that there were over 12 organisations present to market their 2018 graduate program, specifically targeted at the graduating students.

“One thing that makes this expo productive for the students is that most students don’t have access to emailing their applications so bringing organisations here gives them that opportunity to exchange contacts,” Iru says.

The career office was opened last year, which saw UPNG host its first expo in November 2016. It was organised by the Office of Students Services.
