Pacific seafood expo notes success

The first Pacific Seafood and Technology expo has been a success.

The main aim, to bring together SMEs and established companies dealing in seafood, saw 25 local SMEs – two of which were PNG’s big tilapia farmers, participate.

The event presented the opportunity for them to grow their network and learn useful skills such as labelling, packaging and boxing for better product presentation.

The technology part of the show also saw big players, mostly from the Asian region, displaying their machinery such as ice making machine, filleting machines, small canning machines, etc.

Connecting the world to Pacific Seafood was the title of this inaugural event. The exhibition had a total of 54 booths.

The event started on Tuesday (12 September) and ended Thursday with a joint closing reception with the Tuna Forum.

A report of this exposition will be compiled and presented to the Minister for Fisheries, Patrick Basa.

Based on the success of this event, the Pacific Seafood and Technology Exposition will be staged annually or bi-annually.
