Solar power top-up via mobile banking

A PNG registered company specialising in pay-as-you-go solar solutions has teamed up with BSP to allow its customers to purchase a solar power kit through top-up tokens.

The arrangement between Sola PayGo and BSP means Sola PayGo (SPG) customers can now purchase tokens through the BSP Mobile Banking.  The solar power (lights, panel, mobile charging bank, torch and/or radio) top-ups will be available under BSP’s Mobile Banking (*131#) Top Up service.

The solar kits by Sola PayGo will be made available to customers in pilot SPG’s locations in Central Province, the Highlands Region, specifically Goroka, Mt Hagen, Kainantu, Wabag and Gusap, and Wau and Bulolo in Morobe.

Margery Tekwie, Sola PayGo’s Operations Manager, said: “The solar kits will then be paid for, over a period of months by purchasing a ‘token’ via mobile banking”.

“The token code is input to the SPG meter to activate for use. A minimum payment of K12 provides 7 days of solar power.

“Once the final payment is made, the SPG meter ‘opens’ the system so no further payments are required for the lifetime of the product. The product also comes with a 2-year warranty.

“We’re pleased to be able to share this project with BSP, through its mobile banking services, which has an extensive customer reach within PNG.”

BSP General Manager Digital Nuni Kulu said: “This partnership between BSP and SPG provides the benefit of convenience so that customers can quite easily manage their payments without having to visit branch or retailer.”
