Siwai cocoa farmers to meet chocolate makers

Siwai cocoa farmers Steven and Elizabeth Saveke are on their way to Melbourne, Australia, to meet with renowned Australian chocolate makers who have used the pair’s Bougainville grown cocoa beans to create various chocolate products.

It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity, following their participation and win at the 2018 Bougainville Chocolate Festival supported through the Papua New Guinea - Australia Partnership.

The annual Bougainville Chocolate Festival brings farmers, cocoa buyers, industry, researchers and chocolate makers together to develop Bougainville’s cocoa industry.

The chocolate competition encourages farmers to adopt best practice in cocoa management and fermentation to support increased cocoa production and quality of Bougainville’s cocoa sector.

Chocolate makers across Australia received 20kg samples of Steven and Elizabeth’s festival-winning cocoa, which they used to create various chocolate products, all of which will be showcased and compared during a Taste and Tell event in Melbourne.
