OTML aims for more female trainees in 2019

Ok Tedi Mining Limited is targeting a stronger representation of female trainees for its Apprentice, Graduate Development Scheme and Preferred Area Development training programs in 2019.

Managing Director and CEO Peter Graham made this remark during the 34th Combined Graduation ceremony for 36 apprentices and 3 PAD trainees, witnessed by family members, OTML management and contractor partners.

“We want to increase diversity in our workforce, in particular a stronger representation of women. While we currently have some very talented female employees across a range of functions, at only 10 percent of our current workforce, females are under-represented and we are missing this talent,” Graham said.

“Of the 36 apprentices who are graduating today, only two are female.

“At Ok Tedi we take our commitment to training and development very seriously with around 160 trainees each year. For our 2019 trainee program intake we are targeting 50 percent of new graduates, apprentices and Preferred Area recruits to be women.”

Graham added: “We train to meet our own needs and to contribute to the pool of work-ready graduates, apprentices and mine workers. We aim to provide not just technical skills and knowledge but adoption of Ok Tedi’s core values of safety, teamwork, accountability and integrity which are key to establishing a successful career.”

Ok Tedi is currently recruiting for its 2019 intake of graduates and apprentices.
