Ok Tedi’s steps into Transition: Graham

Speaking at the opening of the PNG Mining and Petroleum Conference in Port Moresby, Ok Tedi Mining General Manager and CEO, Peter Graham said Ok Tedi is now looking into its next steps into transition.

Graham said being a globally competitive metal producer, PNG can be proud of Ok Tedi who is taking the approach to achieving the next step in performance as it strives to become a high performance organization.

Ok Tedi, a proud Papua New Guinean company, is a mature, majority state-owned enterprise having commenced operations over 34 years ago.

He said although the operating environment in the mining company is very challenging, the company is proud to note that a significant majority of the workforce to date comprises of 1600 employees, of which about 96% (percent) are Papua New Guineans.

Graham also stated that considerable effort is being made to minimize impact of the mining operations on the river system and the environment generally for the people who are affected by the operations of the mine in the impacted areas.

He added favorably that Western Province entities will shortly own 33% (percent) of Ok Tedi Mining Company once the shares transfers are complete.
