NIDC to boost Becher-Der-Mer export

The New Ireland Development Corporation will establish a subsidiary company to buy and export Becher Der Mer.

This is a move by the Government to ease the market congestion for this marine product and help New Ireland fishermen fetch maximum price for their Becher Der Mer sales.

The Provincial Executive Council at its meeting in late February considered the local sales and market conditions and approved the business plan and submission by NIDC to go into Becher Der Mer buying and exporting business.

New Ireland fishermen have faced serious congestion with their sales at the local markets during the buying season because the few buyers cannot contain the volume of sales that ultimately leave many fishermen, both males and females, frustrated and sales going bad.

Governor Sir Julius Chan said Becher Der Mer is a prized food delicacy for health conscious people and the PEC approval gives NIDC clearance to open shop and liberalize the market for Becher Der Mer buying to help New Irelanders benefit from sales.

New Ireland waters are known healthy grounds for Becher Der Mer and fishermen turn in record volumes of sales that the Government has now stepped in to accommodate and open shop under NIDC to liberalize the market and benefit fishermen.

New Ireland Development Corporation is the business arm of the New Ireland Government set up to help generate businesses locally and provide business platform for local entrepreneurs and joint ventures with reputable business partners.
