Handbook for poultry farmers

These vital information handbooks were delivered after a visit in 2021 and the need for more information for poultry farmers. 

In 2021, Farmer's and Settlers Association with funding support from Livestock Development Corporation, DAL Highlands Region, DPI Daulo, NAQIA, Zenag Chicken and Goodman Fielder's undertook Poultry Awareness and Training in Central, Gulf, Madang (Ramu Valley), EHP and parts of Simbu and Jiwaka.

The visits were a success with request for more training at local level government venues and the need for information booklets for poultry farmers.

“We realised the absence of training materials and uniform extension materials as the DAL and NARI Technical Bulletins or Farming Notes were outdated as it was from 1970-80s,” said HFSA President, Wilson Thompson.

Highlands Products Ltd through their Zenag Chicken responded to provide a 31 page, colour and illustrated gloss handbook.

The HFSA has recently delivered to farmers at Dumpu, Mutzing, Yonki, Kainantu and Asaro and Goroka and Unggai Bena.

“We also had the booklets shipped to Port Moresby by Zenag Chicken which were presented to Gulf and Central DPI for distribution and also to MRDC for uplift to Kikori in Gulf Province,” said Mr Thompson.

A number of boxes were delivered to the EBC Pastors Training College at Yauna, Kabiufa High School and to the University of Goroka.

Farmers have been urged to collect through DAL and NAQIA Regional Office in Goroka and DPI Daulo District.
DPI Office in Simbu and Jiwaka to pick their share for distribution to the farmers in the respective provinces.
