First-ever POM city markets staged

Port Moresby saw the hosting of its first POM City Markets yesterday.

The event is a local platform, collaborating to create a general purpose city market.

It was staged at the Sir John Guise stadium, boasting a successful turnout with 30 stalls.

Organised by Rowanna Endose and the Pascoe Promotions, POM city markets is set to be staged on the second of every month.

The idea here is to provide a safe space made available for a variety of different things to be sold and at least at a more central location for the general public to visit.

“So it’s just a market, but with a variety of products, it’s safe, it’s a family event, and it goes into the night,” said Endose.

The 30 stalls were taken up by individuals, families and groups, upcoming and established SMEs as well as big business and service providers.

Aromantic Coconut products from Aroma is one upcoming SME who took this platform as an opportunity to network and market itself.

“This is the second time we have come out like this, and the day has been great for us,” said Kellin Genolamar – team leader, sales + marketing.

As a community responsibility, the event organisers will be offering a free stall every month. For the month of April, it was RSPCA.

This first event attracted a good crowd, even spotting a few tourists as well from nearby hotels like The Stanley.

The program ended at 5:30pm but Endose says other events of such will run from 8am to 8pm.

She hopes for a bigger one next month.
