Eda Ranu ready for APEC

Eda Ranu is ready to provide water and waste discharge services to the cruise liners and Australian war ships that will be berthed in Port Moresby waters during the APEC 2018 Summit.

Managing director Henry Mokono said like all state departments and agencies, the company is taking their role seriously in preparing for the global event.

Eda Ranu began preparations for this year’s APEC Summit early in 2017.

And discussions so far have been progressive, according to Mokono.

“Our planning started last year, in terms of waste removal. We’ve already got plans to remove waste from these large cruise liners.

“We’re expecting three cruise liners and two Australian war ships, who will be berthed here and three will be berthing at Waterfront.

“So we’re working with the APEC Authority as well as the owners of the cruise liners on how best we can discharge waste from these liners,” he said.

Mokono said working with the huge ships will be a new experience for them.

However, they are keen and ready to assist the ships stationed in Port Moresby in November.

“When you really look at these cruise liners, water we will supply water, in terms of waste management, they’ve got their own internal structural systems that can actually treat waste internally. If it needs us to discharge we will discharge.

“So we’ve had these discussions with the operators of the cruise liners and they’re comfortable with what we can offer them. That’s why they are coming.

“So Eda Ranu, we’re ready to supply water as well as discharge waste from these liners.”
