Pom to take centre stage in summit

Port Moresby will take centre stage as an ideal investor destination from August 22 -23 in Brisbane, Australia.

The Papua New Guinea International Business Summit will market business and investment opportunities to the international business community.

Bank South Pacific has commitment over K60,000 to support the hosting of the business summit.

Day one of the Summit will focus on investment projects in Port Moresby and its contribution to PNG’s economy, while day two will be more focused on the hosting of APEC in 2018.

One of the highlights of the Summit is a keynote address by Dr Simon Baptist, Global Chief Economist; Managing Director of the Economist Intelligence Unit, Asia.

Dr Baptist will be one of many guest speakers at the event, with more names to be released over the coming weeks.

The theme for this year’s summit is “Port Moresby Future City” as the team focuses on promoting Port Moresby as a growing business hub in the Pacific and positioning itself for business opportunities.

Port Moresby Chamber of Commerce CEO, David Conn, said: “We hope the Summit will attempt to chart the future of PNG’s capital city, which will inevitably drive the development and business opportunities within the capital and the rest of Papua New Guinea.

“It will also weigh the importance of development of our capital versus other centres and rural areas in PNG.”

Meanwhile, BSP Group CEO, Robin Fleming, said: “BSP sees the potential to generate many opportunities in the various sectors that it represents, especially the small to medium (SME) companies, where we provide the avenue to facilitate strategic alliances for future growth.

“As the leading bank of the Pacific, we are pleased the be a part of this summit, as a sponsor and a presenter, supporting our Government, our economy and providing world class banking services and solutions for our people, from our corporate clients to our rural based customers.”

BSP has been the major sponsor of the event since 2010.
