Govt urged to revisit LNG agreements

The Hela Governor is reminding the Government to revisit the agreements signed by the PNG LNG Project landowners in 2009 in Kokopo, East New Britain Province.

Governor Philip Undialu said till now the Government is yet to pay the landowners after 305 shipments of gas.

He made this call after MRDC issued statements of payment of K15 million to the landowners at the plant site.

He is calling on the National Government to take serious consideration on the following before they even talk about releasing the equity and royalty payments to plant site landowners;

- Pay the K35m promised to pay to Hides PDL1 and Hides PDL7 landowners in 2015;

- Fund clan vetting exercise as a matter of priority;

- Release the 4.27 percent Kroton equity free of charge as promised by Prime Minister to the beneficiary groups;

- Release all outstanding IDG and High Impact funds which could total K500m to date; and

- Fund impact projects such as Nipa-Tari road sealing, Tari-Komo road sealing, Tari-Kopiago road sealing with electricity connected, Tari Hospital and Hela Provincial headquarters buildings.

He said by law, as Governor of the host PNG LNG Project gas fields, he is automatically a 'Board Member' of the Gigira Gas Resources Ltd, Hides 4 Gas Resources Ltd, Juha Gas Resources Ltd and Angore Gas Resources Ltd.

“Without addressing the above, I as Governor of the gas fields in Hela and Director of the four gas resources companies, say a big 'NO' to releasing funds from our Equity and Royalty Trust Accounts which the Government holds in Trust.”
