CPL addresses Gerehu fire

The facilities lost in the Gerehu fire in Port Moresby will throw up a big challenge for CPL.

The company, in a statement, said CPL home-grown retailer of 30 years, City Pharmacy, sadly lost their head office and warehouse in a fire at Uduka St, Gerehu. No one was harmed in the blaze, which began around 10pm on Sunday evening.

CPL Managing Director Joe Barberis said: “The CPL teams are already working hard on minimising the impact on customers and trade.

“We appreciate the many messages of support from the community and our business partners and will keep all stakeholders informed as we progress.”

CPL Management have already met to plan out the recovery and rebuilding process.

Fortunately all CPL stores (City Pharmacy, Stop N Shop and Hardware Haus) across Papua New Guinea, including Port Moresby, are able to operate and are open for normal trading.

“CPL is fortunate enough to have many supportive suppliers who are already providing assistance in stocking our stores,” stated the firm.

CPL further said it is too early to speculate on the cause of the fire.
